Founded in 2000, Stax Music Academy was created to provide viable, affordable options for mentoring and youth development, specifically targeting the highly at-risk children and teens in the Memphis ZIP codes of 38106 and 38126. Click here to view timeline.

The Academy embodies the sprit of harmony, respect, and cooperation that defined Memphis' legendary Stax Records. Like its namesake, Stax Music Academy welcomes young people from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, and provides them with unique opportunities to learn, grow, and truly find their voices.

Stax Music Academy is part of the Soulsville Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that also operates the Stax Museum of American Soul Music and The Soulsville Charter School.
